Sonali Deshpande is a policy analyst at Energy Innovation, working to help regions around the world reduce emissions from the production of goods like steel, textiles, and paper. In addition to helping design and implement real-world policies, she produces foundational research on clean industrial technologies that are not yet well understood, like electric heating equipment. In her capacity as a policy analyst, in 2024, Sonali served as an advisor to the U.S. State Department on policies to advance remanufacturing.
Prior to joining Energy Innovation, Sonali was an analyst on the Environmental Defense Fund’s U.S. Climate Policy team, where she helped increase federal support for new and innovative climate technologies. Sonali holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Vassar College. While pursuing her MPA, Sonali served as a graduate consultant for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and a research assistant at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy. Sonali works remotely from northwestern Vermont, where she spends her free time rock climbing, running, writing, and making music.
